I have always been deeply concerned about the needs of people, and I have never shied away from exploring my creative ideas. My team and I identified the challenges faced by individuals, such as those with temporary injuries like a broken leg, who struggle with driving. This sparked in us the idea to develop a reliable and immediate solution to address their difficulties. Our vision also extends to those suffering from knee pain due to extensive driving and individuals with disabilities. Consequently, we embarked on designing a product that has the potential to create a significant transformation in their driving experience.

When and how did we personally discover the problem you want to solve?

I discovered this problem through direct observations of individuals struggling with mobility issues, particularly those who faced challenges in driving due to temporary injuries like broken legs. I witnessed friends and family members, affected by such injuries, expressing frustration over their limited mobility. This experience heightened my awareness of the barriers that people with disabilities or injuries encounter in their daily lives.

Why is solving this problem critical?

Addressing this issue is vital because it directly impacts the independence and quality of life for individuals with mobility disabilities and temporary injuries. By enabling these individuals to drive, we can significantly enhance their ability to participate in daily activities, access employment, and maintain a sense of normalcy. For companies, assisting employees with temporary injuries or disabilities can reduce absenteeism and increase workplace productivity, making it a timely and important concern.

Who suffers most from this problem?

Individuals with mobility disabilities, those recovering from injuries like broken legs, and people experiencing chronic conditions that impair their ability to drive are the ones who suffer the most. They often have a profound awareness of their challenges and the restrictions placed on their freedom and independence due to these issues.

How badly does this problem affect the ICP?

This problem can significantly diminish the quality of life for affected individuals, leading to social isolation, reduced job opportunities, and increased reliance on others for transportation. Many have resorted to using public transport, which may not be accessible for them, or relying on family and friends to assist them, both of which can be inconvenient and sometimes humiliating.

How do our personal and professional experiences align with the problem?

Our personal experiences have deeply connected us to this cause. For instance, a close friend of us suffered a broken leg and faced immense challenges when trying to drive. Observing their struggle motivated us to think about creative solutions. Professionally, our background in innovation and product development has equipped us with the skills needed to bring practical solutions to such challenges.

Why are we the right person to solve this problem?

we believe we are uniquely positioned to tackle this problem due to our personal connections and insights into the daily struggles faced by individuals with mobility issues. Our motivation stems from a genuine desire to improve their quality of life and empower them to regain their independence. We have invested time and effort in understanding their needs, which fuels my commitment to this project.

What have people done so far to solve this problem?

So far, various adaptations and modifications have been made to vehicles to accommodate individuals with disabilities, such as hand controls and modified seating. However, these solutions often require significant investment and customization, making them less accessible for many users.

Where do these attempts fall short?
These existing solutions frequently fall short due to their complexity, cost, and lack of portability. Many are not suitable for temporary users or those who do not have the resources for extensive modifications. As a result, there is a significant gap in affordable, easy-to-use solutions for short-term or intermittent needs.

What innovative solution are we bringing to the table?

Our Touch Pedal device offers a portable and innovative solution that transfers gas and brake controls to the steering wheel. This product is designed with user-friendliness in mind, allowing individuals with mobility disabilities or temporary injuries to drive comfortably and safely, addressing their unique struggles empathetically.

What feedback, testing, or early success stories can we share?

We have conducted preliminary testing and received positive feedback from individuals who have used prototypes of our device. Users have expressed that the Touch Pedal greatly improved their driving experience, providing them with renewed independence and confidence in their mobility.

What immediate actions are we focusing on to push our solution forward, and why?

We are currently focusing on finalizing the product design and preparing for regulatory approval in the European market. Additionally, we plan to engage with potential users for further testing and refinement. These steps are crucial to ensure that our device is safe, effective, and ready for launch.

How prevalent is this problem among other companies or industries?

This issue is widespread across various sectors, particularly in transportation and healthcare. Many companies employ individuals who may face temporary or permanent mobility challenges, highlighting the importance of inclusive mobility solutions. As we observe more companies promoting diversity and inclusion, the demand for effective solutions like ours continues to grow.

what is the innovative aspect of our solution and compare it to the Dutch/European competitors?

The innovative aspect of our solution lies in its unique design that transfers gas and brake controls to the steering wheel, enabling individuals with mobility disabilities or broken legs to drive without relying on their feet. This approach enhances driving accessibility and independence for users, a significant advancement compared to existing systems that often require extensive modifications or do not cater to a wide range of disabilities.

Unlike many Dutch and European competitors, who may offer modifications that are complex or limited to specific vehicle types, our portable device is versatile and can be easily installed in various vehicles. This flexibility makes it accessible to a broader audience, ensuring that people with disabilities can enjoy personal mobility without the constraints of traditional driving aids.

Furthermore, our adherence to high European safety and functionality standards sets us apart. By focusing on user-friendly design, we have created a solution that not only meets regulatory requirements but also enhances the overall driving experience. Our success in securing a gold medal at the Global Invention Competition further underscores the uniqueness and effectiveness of our product in the competitive landscape.
